Wiring Porch Light Fixture

Low voltage light fixtures luminaires must be no closer than 5 feet away from the outside walls of pools spas or hot tubs.

Support the fixture with a wire coat hanger. Some wiring may vary however this is the most common wiring scenario for a 120 volt light fixture. Make sure the power source is turned off. Several types of remodeling boxes can do the job but we recommend a 2 x 3 in metal remodeling box that s 2 1 2 in deep for fixtures up to about 6 lbs.

Splice the white lead to white wire and black to black. Light fixtures with more than one lamp may have a pair of black and white wires for each lamp. These connect to the black and white wires in the electrical box with the provided larger wire nuts. However it s likely that the light fixture was mounted in the middle of a stud cavity which makes mounting a box that can support the weight of the fixture more difficult.

Fold the wires into the box and install the fixture onto the mounting bolts. Caulk around the base. Wire the switch install a bulb and test.
